Home Tour: Neutral Elegance

via House Beautiful

This gorgeous home caught my eye because of the neutral, creamy walls and foundational pieces, mixed in with minimal touches of pink. Sweet and beautiful! That kitchen is among one of my favorite parts of the home. It feels so warm and inviting! Did you notice the unexpected touch of the tile work by the toe kick? Love!

What's your favorite element of the home tour?

Client Reveal: Dining Room & Living Room

I'm excited to share a design project reveal with you today! My client, Kerri, needed help pulling together the design of a few rooms in their home-- the dining room, family room, and the living room. Today I'm showing you a quick look into a few of the rooms.

They have these beautiful built ins in the kitchen, so we just got a few pillows to accent the bench.

In the dining room, we put in a chandelier where there was only recessed lighting in the room before. We also found a beautiful mirror to go over the console table, added baskets under the console and created a pretty gallery wall.

I just love the chandelier!

This is the sitting room off the dining room. We added the side table, lamp, and accessories to complete the room. I love the light pouring in this room!

I love completing projects for my clients, but am sad to no longer be working with them-- I especially loved Kerri and her sweet family.

***If you're in need of design services, I'd love to help! Whether you live in the greater Grand Rapids area or you live far away and need virtual design services, please shoot me an email at hello@michaelanoelledesigns (dot) com. I'm thrilled to be taking both full service design clients and one hour consultation clients. Can't wait to hear from you!***

Wedding Bliss: Favorite Marriage Books

Since being engaged, we've been reading a few very helpful books on marriage, doing life together, and how to live, interact, and love your spouse. We've said all along that while we are planning a wedding for September, we want the planning of our marriage to be more important! I thought I'd share some of our favorite books with you here.

Meaning of Marriage / For Women Only / For Men Only / Unveiled Wife / 31 Prayers for My Husband (there's also 31 Prayers for My Wife) / The 5 Love Languages / The Mingling of Souls

We aren't married so we have nothing figured out yet, but a lot of these books have been really helpful to us in preparing for what marriage might look like. Some of these we haven't read quite yet, but are hoping to soon. I'm currently reading the Meaning of Marriage and I really love it. The author explains the background of marriage, gender roles, how relationships have changed over the years, how humans are becoming more selfish and less grace-giving, and what the Bible has to say about the meaning of marriage. It's been a great read so far-- albeit, long!

We also have both read the For Men and For Women Only books. We heard the authors speak at our church once and immediately bought our own copies of the book. They suggested having the man read "For Women Only" first and having the woman read "For Men Only" first. Since For Women Only is actually for women, about men, the man can read it first and underline / highlight what sticks out and is true about him in the book (and vice versa!) Then when you swap and read the book meant for you, you'll be able to see the places your spouse underlined, be sure to note those sections as being really important to them. This has been so eye-opening for us! I'm learning things about men in general and specifically about McCann that I didn't know before reading these books.

The Five Love Languages is such a good read for anyone, whether you've been married for a week, a year or 25 years. The author helps you understand what ways you respond best to love and in turn, feel the most loved. I learned in this book that you usually love others in the way you best like to receive love, but that it's actually really important to pay attention to others' love language and love them in the way they want to receive it. This has been influential in my friendships, too!

I hope this short list of books is helpful to anyone getting married or has been married for a while, but is interested in some good reads. Here's to making our marriages more meaningful than our wedding day!

Please share any books YOU have loved and found helpful! I'm all ears.

Bloom Bash Florida

If you've been around here for long, you'll know that in addition to my interior design business, I'm also one of the co-founders of The Bloom Workshop. We have a couple different workshops this year, but one of the ones that we're most excited for is our workshop in May in Florida! I wanted to share a bit about it today.

We are thrilled to bring Bloom to Florida in 2016, and can't wait to host at the most stunning venue, The Lange FarmsSpanish moss covers live oaks on this farm property, complete with horses, rustic barn and the most gorgeous garden house where we will meet for lectures and hands-on learning. Southern details will be sprinkled throughout this two day event, with a fully southern inspired styled shoot (think sweet tea, overflowing bouquets and monograms).

If you're thinking of coming to Bloom Bash Florida, this is what you can look forward to:
  • Two full days of education and learning. Time-tested strategies from industry leaders, practices you can put into action in your business and blog now, and hands-on training. Bonus pre-workshop networking mixer included.
  • Day One Sessions include: Blogging, Social Media, Branding, Photography, Styling & Design.
  • Day Two Hands-on includes: Floral arranging class, calligraphy class and your choice of two breakout sessions (Photography & The client experience OR Styling & Standard Principles of Design). Attendees will take home their floral arrangement and vessel as well as their full calligraphy kit including pen, nib, ink and instructional materials.
  • A fully styled wedding photo shoot at the end of day two including tablescapes, florals, bride, groom and bridesmaid models and a styling station. Refine and develop your photography and styling skills in a relaxed environment where no one will compete to "get the shot". This is hands-on and attendees will be actively shooting and styling. Photos may be used for personal portfolios. We will also be sharing how to dream up and execute styled shoots of your own!
  • Daily insight from a panel of hand-selected experts.
  • Networking opportunities. Bloom takes pride in featuring speakers and guests who love to share their hearts and success.
  • Catered breakfast and lunches on both days of the workshop.
  • Professional headshots of yourself or your team. Ashley Slater Photography & Jennifer Blair Photography will be providing an opportunity for you to have your photos taken for your business or blog.
  • A sweet bag of swag and other thoughtful gifts, sprinkled over the two day workshop.

On the second day of the workshop, we set up a gorgeous styled shoot for everyone to put what they learned into practice. Our styled shoot inspiration will center around our venue and aesthetic and we will be embracing all things Southern! The live oaks, Spanish Moss, horses and rustic barn will take center stage. Bows & Arrows floral will be designing our floral pieces including bouquets & table arrangements. Annie of Wildfield Paper Co. will be working with us to design a stunning invitation suite that evokes a nostalgic feeling of the Old South. Details like stunning engagement rings by Susie Saltzman, wedding gowns by Elizabeth Dye, ribbons, runners, and vintage furniture will bring this beautiful vision to life! A dessert bar by Hands On Sweets will feature cakes and a signature drink.

It's going to be a beautiful two days, with beautiful artists and vendors combining their talents. We can't wait!

You can see more details on our website, and register here. If you're interested in registering, please email me or comment below so I can give you a special discount for being a reader!

Happy Tuesday!

Home Tour: Fixer Upper Favorite

We all love Fixer Upper on HGTV! In fact, it's probably my favorite show the network has ever aired. Between the sweet personalities of Chip & Joanna to the gorgeous and attainable makeovers they share, it's a great show! One of their latest renovations really caught my eye. The home owner is actually the talented photographer who takes all the house photos for them.

I love the open floor plan, mix of textures (especially that fireplace stone!), the kitchen fixtures, and rug choices in this home. I thought I'd show it off so you can enjoy it, too!

This is their dining room light fixture, but silver is sold out now: Collins Chandelier

What's your favorite part of the house? At the top of my list is the outside. It's just so charming!
