Give Thanks

Film Image by Ashley Slater Photography, florals by Lindsay Coletta, Styling by Michaela Noelle Designs for The Bloom Workshop

Thanksgiving is a wonderful day for so many reasons. The food is yummy, but the family and relationships are even richer. No matter how big or small, we are surrounded by blessings every single day. Although we shouldn't need a day set aside to remember to give thanks for the gifts God has given us, it sure is nice to have it.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. ~ Psalm 28:7

There are so many things I'm thankful for, but here are just a few:
- A God who is wondrously powerful and merciful, and provides us with our every need-- even if we don't understand the ways in which He provides.
- My family, who love me from afar.
- My boyfriend, who encourages me in all my creative endeavors and makes me laugh.
- My best friend, who I get to do business with and share life with.
- A little home (apartment), all my own here in Michigan.
- Sweet friendships, some even formed from this blog!
- I get to do what I love on a  daily basis, and that is such a gift.
- Our crazy pup, Hope.
- The best brother a girl could ask for. I've been blessed with a younger brother who I often look up to.
- Warm socks. But seriously. And big coats!
- A wonderful church here in Michigan. And the new friends that came along with it.
- Chocolate. Mostly chocolate chip cookies.
- Heated seats in my car :)
- The fact that winter and snow means watching lots of movies.
- We serve a faithful God who gives good gifts and loves us, even though we don't deserve it. That is truly the best, most gracious gift I could imagine.

What are you thankful for?!

Enjoy your day, friends! I am certainly thankful for each of you!

Fashion: Thanksgiving Outfit

DETAILS | Leggings / Sweater -- similar here , here and here ) / Boots (20% OFF!) / Scarf - this was a gift, but this one is similar / Jacket (50% OFF!) / Necklace (similar & 30% OFF with code BRBLACK30) / Lace Tank / Liptstick

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I'm definitely wearing my stretchy leggings with a cute sweater (stretchy pants are a must so I can keep piling in the food!)-- probably something just like the above outfit. There's no doubt I'll also be dawning my new Mac Lipstick in this pretty plum color-- perfectly named Plumful :) It dresses up any outfit...or at least I think so.

I am still loving my big black puffy jacket from last year, and I can't believe it, but it's still in stores and it's 50% off, coming in at under $100! This is an amazing deal, because this coat keeps me nice and toasty and is super cute. This tank is the greatest thing ever, and it's on major sale, too! I wear it under most sweaters to cover my bum and dress up the outfit a little :)

What are you wearing for Thanksgiving / the rest of the holiday season?!

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

I sure love playing hostess, so my kitchen cupboards are exploding with cake stands, mugs, napkins, plates of all sizes gold flatware, and pretty goblets. Today I'm showing you some of my favorite hostess and entertaining items, perfect for gifts for your friends and family. Arriving at a holiday party empty handed is sometimes awkward, so bringing something from the above list would really make your host smile and be a great way to say thank you for their hospitality!

This Mr. and Mrs. Cutting Board is one of my favorite things from Lulu & Georgia. A monogrammed  mug in gold is a personable and thoughtful gift the receiver will adore. I have the gold mug and sip my tea from it most mornings! A simple and inexpensive horseshoe wine cork, cocktail napkins or matches are also great gifts for those who love to entertain!

Come back later today to see what I'm going to wear on Thanksgiving to get some ideas for your holiday outfits.

Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers

gift guide, stocking stuffers, make up, gifts, perfume, christmas, holiday gifts, jewelry, candle
DETAILS | bow gloves / stop and smell the roses bangle / bubble bath / back up charger / green stud earrings / under eye concealer-- Benefit Cosmetics fake up / peony & blush Jo Malone perfume / honey Marc Jacobs perfume / mini gold candle / jewelry tray / matches / hand lotion / hair ties /

When it comes to waking up on Christmas morning as a kid (and even now, who am I kidding?!) my favorite thing was always the little items tucked in my stocking by my mom Santa. Not only is it fun to keep digging in there for treasures, but the items are so fun and almost always my favorite gifts. My mom has always stuck lotions, bubble bath, lip stick or gloss, nail polish, a tiny candle, sock, perfume, or makeup I had asked for. She also always includes lottery tickets, which is awesome. One year I won $25...woohoo!

Today I've rounded up 12 stocking stuffer ideas, small enough to fit in a stocking and cute enough to make the person you're buying for smile. A few of my favorite items from the above list are those adorable gloves with a bow (they come in other colors, too!) I'm obviously living in a cold weather, snowy state so gloves have been on my mind. These hair ties are so genius. I never use any other kind. With thick hair myself, I find these to hold my pony tail in place without hurting or pulling. I'm a self-admitted addict to lotion. I have to put it on as soon as I wash my hands, so this Aveda lotion has me covered. It's the only lotion I use! The small bottle fits in my purse. Last year I asked for Honey perfume by Marc Jacobs and I have never regretted it. It smells divine-- smells like a combo of peach, pear, and honey.

The Makings of a Fashion Post: Behind the Scenes

Being a blogger is great, but it comes with it's challenges. Perhaps the biggest challenge is finding someone who will take your pictures for fashion posts (without complaining or being embarrassed.) I often get asked who takes my pictures and I'm here to tell you today! When I am in California, I've trained my dad to use the camera. When I'm here in Michigan, my boyfriend gets stuck with this non-paying job. They are both great photographers, but what you don't know is that they are also great models!

What you see here on the blog are pretty pictures of my outfits, but what you don't see are the pictures I have to take of my dad and McCann before they take the pictures of me. In order to get the light and frame set up, my "photographer" has to stand in the shot for me while I get things ready to go. It's funny how they evolved since starting to help me with these photos. At first, both were embarrassed that we had to take pictures in public and just stood there, not looking at the camera. And now...well, now you can see for yourself below. They are quite bold in their posing ;) I guess they figured they would have fun while I "test the light" on them!

For everyone's enjoyment, I give you The Makings of a Fashion Post:

My favorite? Definitely the one of my dad with the balloons on the railroad tracks. In second place would be the one of my dad in his biking outfit and water shoes.  That's what happens when I ask him to quickly take some pictures of me before his Sunday bike ride and he doesn't have shoes on yet. He ran to get the closest pair, and unfortunately, but fortunately for this post, they were his "water/gardening" shoes. Finally, I love the one of McCann pointing his toe and angling to the side. He says that's the pose I do. I beg to differ... ;)

Black Dress & Balloons
Blue Pants & Chevron Top
Gray Coat & Black Boots
Black Coat, Hat & Booties
Floral Pants & Sweater

I thought we could all use a good laugh this Friday, so there you have it. At the expense of my dad and boyfriend, you're welcome.

Happy weekend!

Thanksgiving Buffet Decor & A Print for You

Thanksgiving is a week away and my house is having an identity crisis. My buffet is Thanksgiving and my bookshelf has Christmas decorations. I even put up my mini Christmas tree yesterday. With all this snow, who can blame me?! I love decorating simply, trying to avoid going over the top and taking the holiday decor too far. I think a the recipe for a sophisticated buffet is the following:

A print + candles (with unique candle holders) + something metallic (this pumpkin keeps it classy and elegant) + something with texture and / or a living element (the vase of thistles).

I asked Jessica Albers to create a Thanksgiving print for my buffet, because I absolutely love her calligraphy. Her feminine style is perfect for my apartment! You can download this print to use in your home, too! Keep scrolling to grab it :)

DETAILS | Polka dot vase / Dessert plates / Pumpkin / Candle stick holders (sold out, but similar here) / Pom pom garland

Guess what?! We want you to have the print for your Thanksgiving gathering, so you can purchase it for only $5 (seriously?!!) on Jessica's website HERE. What a beautiful reminder to give thanks in all things!

Are you decorating for Thanksgiving?

Don't forget to check out my Gift Guide: For Him from earlier today.

Happy Thursday!
